Ye of No Votes

No one put in their two cents as to what color the wall should be between the dining room and the stairs. So I had to take Kevin's opinion, which was 'Iced Tea.' I have to say it turned out well and it looks good from every angle. Nothing looks out of place and the flow is great.

Not to mention that with the aid of some temporary drop cloths, I so far managed to not get paint on the new carpet, which was a big reason for the procrastination on this task!

Together in Perfect in Harmony

This past weekend Kevin and I took on a few house projects. I had been resisting reinstalling the skylight blinds, but I recently read that you need to protect bamboo flooring from too much exposure to sunlight. So back up went the skylight blinds.

The only problem was reinstalling them. These blinds are tricky little buggers, so I had Kevin screw in the latches and then he sent me up there to connect them. The first two went in with no problem, but the third one had twisted strings. I felt like we were two five year olds trying to put our Legos together. We worked together and tried different things and we finally got them working. I think this is our first project that we didn't argue over and that we actually worked in Harmony.

I think I actually like the blinds now!

Welcome to the Family!

If you've ever done any remodeling or fixing up of a house, you'll soon learn it's all about who you know. If you have a cousin who's a plumber, awesome! If you're friends with a kitchen remodeler, all the better. We haven't known too many of these (with the exception of my Dad who can do anything). Well, Kevin's family is bringing an electrician into the family. HOORAY!

I've been having problems figuring out a wiring issue in the kitchen for weeks. This dilemma has left my walls beautifully painted and trimmed, but marred by open electrical sockets. When I called Matt for advice, he answered my question in under 5 minutes. He's also offered to help us with recessed lighting.

Kevin's niece Shawn is engaged to Matt. We always thought Matt was a nice guy (he is an Eagles fan after all so how could he not be?), but now that he's given us such good advice on wiring, I have to say, he's awesome! Good choice Shawn!

Strangely Happy

After searching through every box this weekend for cocktail party shoes, I figured it was about time to get to labeling my shoes.

Today, I spent part of my morning organizing my shoes. Putting away the summer flip-flops and bringing out the winter boots and shoes. I finally went the final anal step that I've been wanting to do for years. Thanks to my digital camera I was able to do it for practically nothing.

I photographed all of my summer shoes, labeled and printed out tags for the boxes. As you can see everything is now photographed and labeled. I am strangely happy as the title says. Kevin however, will be strangely distraught that I need this many shoes!

We Call This Organization

Somehow or other we have moved on to working on the basement, heaven help us. We're not done on the first floor, but we're already starting downstairs. I don't know how this happened.

Wait, I know how this happened. Kevin has been chomping at the bit to get our bookshelves painted so that we can finally put our books away and he can find all of those books he wants to read that I've been saying are in one of my boxes. He is also extremely disturbed by the boxes and he wants them unpacked. (This from a man whose coffee table used to be a box before he met me!)

So Saturday morning, we 'organized' the library. I know, it doesn't look very organized, but it is. The books are in the boxes on the right and everything else is in the boxes on the left. The donate/eBay pile is in the hallway, which you can't see.

Yes, it makes me cringe too.
