Kevin is Finally Home

Kevin is finally home from his business trip. He hasn't seen the basement yet. He's been too tired and now too busy. He's working from home. If I can tear myself away from staring at him (it's sooooooooo good to have him home), I'm going to install our new smoke detector (one without a remote control) and wood putty the floors.

He wants me to wait to cut a hole in his office wall. I wonder why? Other shenanigans of the past week to follow shortly.

I Tried

So Kevin has been away on business and as a surprise, I wanted to paint the ceiling of his office and complete the trim work. Thus, when he returned all we would have to do is paint the walls and voila, his office would just need a new floor!

The best laid plans of mice and men, just aren't to be. I'm behind schedule and he's arriving home tonight. I have a whole wall of trim unpainted, because that is where the water damage occurred (before we owned the house) and I haven't been able to find the right tool to cut a hole in the wall and determine if there's any damage back there.

Wood Filling Adventures

I wish we were only down to little things, but we're doing the little things while the big things still loom over our head (i.e. installing floor in the basement!) One of the little things is to fill in the holes around the outside of the first floor, where we were no longer able to nail the bamboo floor in at a 45 degree angle and were consequently forced to "face-nail" the bamboo strips. In other words, when you get near the wall, you push the nail gun down on the floor and nail.

This leaves divets in your floor that you have to go around and fill in with something that resembles the floor coloring. Amazingly there are different options out there for this (who knew?) I first tried regular old wood filler. Bad move as you can see from the above photo. I didn't know at the time that they sold different colors. This will have to be dug out and replaced.

This is my second attempt using a putty stick. It looks good colorwise, but the waxy substance seems to roll out of the holes. Moving on to the third filler...
